Education Project

Aurora Theatre Company believes theatre is a vital learning tool for all people, especially youth. During the 1997 season, Aurora piloted an Education Project in collaboration with the East Bay public schools. Based on the success of that partnership in learning, Aurora has continued to expand its outreach to the schools.

Since then, student presence and participation has grown into a three-part program involving preparation workshops, performances, and post-show forums. The number of students and schools increases each year. This past season, over 700 students from East Bay, San Francisco, Davis, and San Jose high schools, community colleges, universities, adult-schools, and lifelong learning centers attended Aurora workshops, performances, and forums.

The Education Project’s Goals are to:

  • Introduce youth and students to the artistic world of theatre
  • Enhance student educational goals through excellent theatre experiences
  • Foster lifelong interest in and appreciation for theatre in young people
  • Build the theatre audience of the 21st Century
