The Play of Daniel
Aurora Theatre Company presents an encore presentation of a special production: A traditional Holiday experience for the whole family!
an exciting collaboration with
the esteemed Pacific Mozart Ensemble
December 6 through 11, 2004 at 8pm
music director: Richard Grant
stage director: Dunbar Ogden
“The Aurora Theatre/Pacific Mozart co-production of Daniel is a welcome addition to the annual onslaught of holiday shows. The spartan simplicity of Ogden's staging pays off in highlighting Grant's choral and solo direction of the singers. The beauty of the lightly varied liturgical music offers sweet solace on a dark December evening.”
-Robert Hurwitt, San Francisco Chronicle
THE PLAY OF DANIEL: a 12th century music-drama performed at St. Marks Church in Berkeley. When first performed in the Beauvais cathedral in Northern France, the play–based on the biblical story of Daniel in the lion’s den–was a watershed event. It was the rebirth of drama in the Western World after the dark ages. Our performance will feature Dutch vocalist Henk Verhoef and a cast of forty.
