Professional Development

Aurora Theatre Company has a mission to provide a nurturing, intimate environment for an ensemble of theatre artists and artisans to produce plays, old and new, which place a high value on words and ideas, and which emphasize the creative links that connect the playwright, the actor, and the audience.  We believe that an integral part of that mission lies in nurturing the future artists among us. As intimate, relevant, and thought-provoking are our watchwords, we offer a limited number of professional development opportunities per season. Our emphasis is on individualized challenges and one-on-one mentorship. Each of our opportunities is described below.

Aurora offers the following:

Fellowships: Fellows commit to roughly 100 total hours, scheduled in advance. Fellowships are available in the areas of directing, design, marketing, and development. Typically unpaid. If a stipend is available, you can apply for it by writing a short statement of financial need (no additional documentation).

Internships: Interns receive school credit, and commit to a schedule in advance through consultation with school and associate artistic director. Internships are available in the areas of directing, scenic, costume. marketing, and development. Unpaid.

Apprenticeships: Apprentices are able to commit to a schedule in advance but not necessarily complete 100 hours. Schedules would be for a consistent commitment at regular intervals with a minimum requirement to be mutually agreed upon. Apprenticeships are available in the areas of directing, scenic, costume. marketing, and development. Unpaid.

Volunteer opportunities exist in every department and don't require an ongoing commitment, we simply add you our volunteer roster. Feel free to specify what type of volunteer work you would be interested in, e.g. ushering, running lines with actors, carpentry, etc.
