PRESENTED AT HARRY'S UPSTAGE IN THE DASHOW WING

Combining San Francisco’s tradition of narrative longform improvisation with the demands and surprises of traditional theater, these stories take place on a single set, in traditional stage-play style.  The actors have just a bare stage, a few simple suggestions from the audience, and each other.  What results is a night of completely improvised theater -- a spontaneous and unique 3-act play,  with the audience and the actors alike discovering the story as it unfolds.

“An improv supergroup……see what magic happens.”

Dear Friends –

I’d like to let you know about a special group of artists who’ll be performing at Aurora for a limited engagement, Improv Playhouse of San Francisco.

I have known the excellent work of some of this troupe as actors in traditionally scripted plays. So I was immediately intrigued when our colleague Michael Butler, Artistic Director of Centre Rep in Walnut Creek, called to tell me how much his audiences loved Improv Playhouse, and that the troupe were hoping to create their original, on-the-fly, improvised plays in Berkeley.

That’s right folks, these performers don’t improvise mere skits or scenes. With some audience suggestion, they create full length plays before your very eyes, with special attention to character, emotion, and storytelling.

I hope you’ll join us for what promises to be some of the most adventurous theatrical magic Aurora has produced. And as we're offering a completely different world premiere every night, perhaps you’ll want to attend more than once!

Tom Ross
